Straw bale house in Holland
Optional on-site orientations: June 22 & July 21
Participants are invited to join our team for a guided tour of the property and for an opportunity to ask questions in person. You are also welcome to contact us with questions anytime (designcompetitionkeene <at> gmail.com). We ask that you do not visit the property on your own, out of respect for the neighbors.
Deadline to declare participation: July 29
Send us an e-mail to let us know your name, in which competition you will be participating, where you are from, and the best e-mail address and phone number at which to reach you. The Project Manager will send you a competition number to use on your submission.
Deadline to submit design: September 3
Entries must be received by 11:59 P.M.
Open house to showcase designs and award prizes: October 5
This open house will be a celebration of all participants’ work and an opportunity for members of the community to learn about sustainable design.
Edible forest garden in Australia
Interested designers at any level of experience are encouraged to participate in the competitions. In keeping with the project’s goal to raise awareness about sustainable options for food and housing in the community and in the region, applications will be accepted from designers and teams in New England and eastern New York. Visiting the site is helpful for designers but is not required for participation in the competition. Designers are welcome to participate in one or both competitions.
Judges are professionals in sustainable design fields from the region. Learn about them here.
Prize for first place in each competition: $750.
