Sat., Oct. 5: Open House

Save the date! Sat., Oct. 5, 10 A.M. – 3 P.M.  |  21 Stanhope Ave., Keene

How can we live sustainably on typical suburban properties? Visit this one-acre site in Keene to see many different takes on that question.

Join us to learn about sustainable suburban living, make cider on a bike-powered press, and enjoy locally produced refreshments. Help us celebrate the culmination of this unique design competition and envision how to realize the next phase of the project with the site as a sustainable living lab.

We’ll be showcasing the entries from our two Sustainable Suburban Design Competitions: the Suburban Backyard Homestead Design competition and the Sustainable Home Renovation Design competition. We’ll be presenting awards to the winners, determined by designers Dave Jacke, Jono Neiger, Bruce Coldham, and Kim Erslev. Explore the possibilities of the site with Dave Jacke from 1 – 3. Awards will be presented in person by Dave (and possibly other judges–TBA).

Full schedule, including lineup of sustainability demonstrations and workshops, to follow. Check our website soon to get a taste of the designs. Come to be inspired!

We’re looking forward to the tour/orientation this weekend! If you’re considering participating in the competition or would just like to learn more about the project, stop by on Sunday anytime between 1 and 4. There is no working restroom or running water at the site, so please come prepared.

This photo represents “before.” What kind of potential do you see that could translate into a Sustainable Home Renovation or a Suburban Backyard Homestead design?

Our next site tour is coming up soon–Sunday, July 21, from 1 to 4. It’s a great opportunity to experience the property firsthand and learn more about the project. RSVP (designcompetitionkeene <at> gmail.com) or just show up.

Do you know a designer, architect, or student of sustainable design who might be interested in the competition? Please let them know about it! We are also accepting entries from teams–professional design firms, local permaculture guilds, etc. We encourage using the competition as an opportunity for collaboration.
